The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, pits them against each other with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner commented earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on October 29.
