Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the group reach locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This means them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
